RADIO:
Radio 1 Breakfast show with Greg James is a broadcast weekdays from 6:30 to 10:00 am.
This show has been running since 1967 and has been hosted by Greg James since 2018, the previous host was Nick Grimshaw.
You can listen to the show on FM, DAB, Freeview, Freesat, Virgin, Sky TV and on BBC Radio Player.
It’s produced by BBC on their own studios at Broadcasting House in London
Their music playlist are usually made by 40 songs separate by 4 categories:
A List: These 25 songs are the most popular and the most played. They are played at least 25 times in a week
B List: These 15 songs are less played. Around 15 times per week
C List: These 10 songs are the least played on the radio as they are usually the least popular ones. They are played 5 times per week
BBC Introduction: Where they show new artist a few times but in daytime so they give the opportunity for those songs to become popular
Each station contain a different remit, content, style and target audience. The remit of radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech. Its target audience is 15-29 year old. Radio 1 must follow a strict list of conditions such as ensuring that at least 40% of the music in the daytime is from the UK acts each year. This ensures that they are public service broadcasting. This means that they are making the public happy which directly links to the BBC’s main missions to inform, educate and entertain.
A recent December 2021 survey showed that Radio 1 has around 8,167,000 listeners per week, all of which are 15+.
Each listener listens to Radio 1 for around 6.6 hours a week. This adds up to 53,903,000 hours listened a week.
The audience profile of Radio 1 is slightly more female than male and 90% of the audience being white.

We have representation of the youth with the group of teenagers and the young girl in a blue hoodie, as well as representation of the elder people with the homeless person. We have representation of race with the dancers at the end of the video, the guy with the tattoos. and the artist herself. We have social status representation with the homeless person and the business man that helps her.
Also the video has a narrative that can be seen as character evolution for the artist, playing the main role in the video, where we can see her adventure from the bottom to the top of the building representing that the bottom of the building is dark, sad and isolated meanwhile the top of the building is a place of freedom full of natural light.

BIG ISSUE:
The Big Issue Magazine was founded in 1991 by John Bird and Gordon Riddick who have been friends since university. They launched the magazine to dismantle poverty to create opportunity for homeless people, as the number of homeless people was growing in London.
Since 1991, the magazine has helped more then 92,000 vendors earn £115 million. A vendor is this case would be the homeless person who is selling the magazine.The magazine were sold to Vendors for £1.25 who then sell the magazine for £2.50, making them micro-entrepreneur who are working and not begging.
In 1995 the Big issue foundation was founded for additional support for vendors and service to help them address their issues of homelessness. Since being established, the Big Issue Foundation has helped provide services like housing, education, finances and health for homeless people, helping them to regain their independence.
The body shop provided capital to the equivalent of £50,000, which helped them publish the magazine. The magazine was initially published every month but became weekly as the magazine had gained success.
In 2001, the magazine sold 300,000 copies every week but this reduced to 125,000 in 2011. In January 2012 the magazine relaunched with an increase focus on campaigning and political journalism which helped to increase the cover price.
In 2016, the Big Issue Magazine celebrated surpassing 200 million magazine sales.
In the political section, there are article that focus on ending homelessness, such as making more shelters so that there is more availability for those sleeping on the streets through the winter months.
There are also articles about reducing poverty in England such as the Isle of Man. The problem is being tackled so that it doesn’t grow and become a bigger issue in the future for future generations.
